Electricians! I need help with xmas lights. ?
My dad normally puts up this lights but this year he is working away so it has been left up to me to do it. The lights are outdoor lights and need to be plugged indoors. They are low power.
What he has done in the past is to cut the wire near the plug with a pair of scissors and then feed the wire through a small hole in the window frame. Once the wire is through, he then taped it back again so that the end with the plug on was inside the house without having to leave windows open.
We have a solder iron in the house. Would it better to use that rather than just tape (providing I still tape round it with insulating tape? Can you give me any more tips so that I don’t cause a fire or electrocute myself lol?
I suggest you go to the local hardware store and buy some splicer crimp fittings and a crimp pliers. These crimp fittings look like very small tubing. Strip the wire back a little, insert the wire in one end and crimp it; insert the other end of the wire in the other end and crimp it and you are done. Of course you need 2 crimp fittings. At season end, cut crimp fitting off; next year strip wires again.
I would not solder them.
Also – be sure to use a ground faulted circuit for the lights.
